The book of Job records a mysterious creature called Behemoth.

Did this huge animal really exist?

Could this be the hippopotamus or elephant that we know today?

Why would God create a creature like Behemoth?

You will be shocked when you see the scientific confirmation of what has been in the Bible for over 3500 years.

Behemoth has now been proven to have actually existed!

In 1911, a British scientist was astounded to find a few huge bones from what appeared to be an enormous type of rhinoceros.

The bones were of such gigantic size they dwarfed an elephant's bones!

In 1922, an American scientist, found three partial skeletons of a huge creature.

The skeletal remains were hurried to New York, where they were assembled.

The results were nothing short of amazing!

The huge creature was confirmed to be an extinct, gigantic, apparently hornless rhinoceros!

This creature fits the biblical description mentioned in Job which has perplexed Bible scholars for ages. It was not a dinosaur of prehistoric times, when the earth was filled with many large strange-looking creatures.

Open your Bible and turn to Job 40:15.

15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee: he eats grass as an ox.

During the creation week, when God created man and grass, He also created Behemoth (Genesis 1:11-12, 24-26).

God had a purpose for creating Behemoth.

Notice Job 40:19.

Here is an important passage describing this unique animal which actually existed.

19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

God Himself plainly tells us that only He is master over this animal.

Only God could conquer Behemoth.

Because Behemoth was the "chief of the ways of God," we can conclude it was the largest and strongest land animal God made and placed on the earth.

Here is an excerpt from Adam Clarke’s Commentary on Job 40:15.

“The mammoth [Behemoth], therefore, from this proportion, must have been as large as two elephants and a quarter. We may judge by this of its size: Elephants are frequently 10 and 11 feet high; this will make the mammoth [Behemoth] at least twenty-five or twenty-six feet high; and as it appears to have been a many-toed animal, the springs which such a creature could make must have been almost incredible: nothing by swiftness could have escaped its pursuit. God seems to have made it as the proof of his power; and had it been prolific, and not become extinct, it would have depopulated the earth. Creatures of this kind must have been living in the days of Job;”

God used Behemoth, the largest of all land mammals, to make Job see his self-righteousness. And, that he was not as great as he thought he was (Job 32:1).

God created Behemoth to humble Job — a prominent builder of his time — who allowed his personal achievements to swell his vanity.

Realizing his own insignificance, Job repented and acknowledged his own limitations.

Notice Job 42:6.

6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

God put this story in the Bible to also teach us an important lesson.

In life, we encounter trials and challenges that appear so huge, enormous and gigantic. And we feel completely helpless just as Job was against Behemoth.

And that’s why God created an animal like Behemoth to teach us that of and by our own power and ability we can do absolutely nothing.

But with God’s help we will be able to overcome our trials no matter how difficult and overwhelming those challenges might be.
