Are Your Days Numbered?
The Bible tells us “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain wisdom?” Why should we number our days?

The Constant Church of God presents clear answers to your questions, directly from the Bible!
The Bible contains fascinating information that cannot be found anywhere else! — such as: Who is the oldest man to have ever lived?
Genesis chapter 5 and verse 27 records that a man named Methuselah lived nine hundred sixty-nine years. If he had lived another thirty-one years, he would have been a thousand years old.
Adam, the first man created by God, lived nine hundred thirty years.
Noah lived nine hundred fifty years.
After the flood the life span decreased. Abraham lived to the age of one hundred seventy-five years.
King David, who was king over all Israel, died at the age of seventy “in a good old age, full of days.”
Psalm chapter 90 addresses the subject of how short our lives really are.
Let’s read Psalm chapter 90 and verse 10:
10 The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; — For it is soon cut off, — and we fly away.
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Why does this scripture state, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain wisdom?”
Teach us is a request. It is an appeal for God to help us see the big picture so we will grow in wisdom.
When we fully realize that every human being has only about 70 or 80 years to live, that is not a very long time.
It gets our attention!
The Bible says, “Remember how short my time is.”
The scriptures often compare human life to a flower, grass, a mist, a shadow, also to a handbreath.
A handbreath was a measure used in ancient times. It represented the width of the palm of the hand, roughly four inches.
Its small size was also a manner in which to express how short human life is.
Since life is short, we need to make every day count. Consider every day a gift. Make the most of life each and every day.
Don’t waste it. Live it the way God says to live it.
Walk with Him and please Him each and every day. Do what He says every day.
And that’s when life becomes a truly wonderful and exhilarating experience.
Satan, however, fills humanity with the thought that “you will live forever, you are an immortal soul."
God clearly reveals that is a lie. God states in the Bible “You came from dust and will return to dust. The soul that sins will die.
In Psalm chapter 39 and verse 4, King David expresses the same thought, “Lord, make me to know mine end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.
Verse 5. Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.”
The Bible tells us that our lives consist of about 70 or 80 years.
So now, you begin to realize how short your life is! And you will begin to grow in wisdom.
True wisdom is from God!
And when we apply wisdom we must make every second count. We must pray, stay close to God, study the Bible with greater zeal and put His way of life into practice daily.
Then our daily prayer will be as King David’s prayer in Psalm chapter 25 verses 4 and 5.
“Show me Your ways, O Eternal; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.”
God is showing you how short your life is, so that you will seek His wisdom, live His way of life and then qualify to receive His gift of eternal life.
