Does the Bible reveal that God is a Family?

Don’t believe me.

Open your Bibles and follow along.

Let’s begin at the very beginning.

In Genesis chapter 1 and verse 1 we read that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

After God made animals after the animal kind — cattle after the cattle kind and other animals like chickens, dogs, each after its own kind — He created man.

Now listen carefully to what God says in Genesis chapter 1 and verse 26.

26 And God said, Let US make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

God made man not after any of the animal kinds, but after the God kind - in God’s image and God’s likeness.

This is an awe-inspiring truth in the Bible.

Moses wrote this in the Hebrew language. The Hebrew word for “God” used in Genesis chapter 1, verse 1 and verse 26 is Elohim.

Elohim is a collective noun like our English words “team” or “church” or “family.”

More than one person, but one team.

Several people, but one church.

More than one person, but one family.

That’s why in verse 26, He says “Let US” — more than one — because at that time there were just two members of the God Family.

Now, please turn to John chapter 1 and verse 1.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Before human life was even created, there was the Word Who was a Person.

And the Word was with God. Another Person.

Two Persons — God and the Word — formed a family.

The God Family.

The Apostle Paul explains this in 1st Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 20.

Speaking about the Church, Paul says, “But now are they many members, yet one body.”

The Church has many members yet ONE body.

There were 10 of us in the Schaeffer family. But it was one family.

Notice John 1 and verse 14.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

God the Father is the Head of the God family.

And the Word Who became flesh — the man Jesus Christ — is the Son.

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible shows that God is a family.

That God is reproducing after His kind — the Godkind.

There is only one God Family.

There are presently only two members in that Family. However, the God Family is destined to have many more members.

Look at this amazing scripture in Romans chapter 8 verse 29.

29 For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

And that’s why Jesus was called “the firstborn of many brethren.”

Few people can grasp the magnitude of what God intends for mankind.

The Apostle John understood this.

Notice what he wrote in 1st John chapter 3 and verse 1.

1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God . . .

Verse 2.

2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

Notice the Apostle Paul’s comments on the God Family in Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 10.

10 For it was fitting for Him [God the Father], for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation [Jesus Christ] perfect through sufferings.”

From the very beginning, God’s purpose was to bring humans into His Family.

Satan’s plan is to hide the truth about God’s great purpose.

Satan was originally placed on the earth to administer God’s government.

But, he rebelled against God.

Tried to take over God’s position as Ruler over the whole universe.

But together with a third of the angels, he was defeated and cast back down to this earth.

He is forever disqualified from ruling in the government of God.

And so, Satan has hidden God’s true purpose for human beings to become spirit-born members of His Family.

The Apostle Paul summarizes it all in Ephesians chapter 3 verses 14 and 15:

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 from whom the WHOLE FAMILY in heaven and earth is named,

Verse 14 clearly shows that the Family of God has two members, at this time.

But eventually all mankind will be given the opportunity to become members of God’s Family.

This is what the Bible reveals about the exciting and amazing truth that GOD INDEED IS A FAMILY.
