Jesus Christ came with a message from God the Father: the gospel or good news, the happy news of the Kingdom of God.

Unfortunately, people have been taught — and many have accepted — that the Kingdom of God is some kind of sentimental, emotional, feel-good something that dwells in man’s heart.

Or it is the church that they currently attend.

Is that what the Bible says?

Don’t believe me. Please open your Bible and prove it for yourself.

Turn to Revelation chapter 11.

Here, in plain, straightforward language is God's explanation of what the Kingdom of God is.

Revelation 11 and verse 15.

15 . . .“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

Clearly, the Kingdom of God is a literal kingdom Christ will restore at His return!

There are four essential elements that make up any kingdom.

A kingdom must have a king or ruler.

Jesus Christ will be the King of kings and Lord of lords.

He will rule in the Kingdom of God.

A kingdom must have a definite territory.

The earth, not heaven, will be the territory of the Kingdom of God.

A kingdom will have subjects or citizens within that territory. And people — human beings — will be the citizens living in God’s Kingdom.

And, lastly, the Kingdom of God will have a system of laws and a form of government to administer those laws.

The Ten Commandments will be the foundational law of the Kingdom of God.

WHY does God command us to seek FIRST the Kingdom of God?

God is the Ultimate Authority regarding what is best for us.

After all, He is our Creator.

He made us; so He knows all about us.

And because His desire is for us to have happy, meaningful, fulfilling lives, He wants us to be fully concentrated, laser-focused on the right goal.

Yet for most people, life's highest priority is earning more.

Owning more.

Getting more.

It is how so many measure success, status and happiness.

Does God want us to be in the grips of grinding poverty?

Living from paycheck to paycheck?

Barely able to make ends meet?

No, He does not.

The Bible says men like Abraham, Job and many others were wealthy.

God desires for us to prosper and be successful.

However, Christ warned us against TRUSTING in riches.

For many people, wealth and success seem like the surest path to a better life.

But in the long run, it is not the way to lasting fulfillment.

Only the Kingdom of God offers a glorious future that will never be taken away: Eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus Himself said, “It is my Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.”

God wants us to inherit His Kingdom.

But we must want it, too.

The choice is ours.

So, He has set before us life and death. Blessing and cursing.

And, He urges us, “Choose life.”

He does not want anyone to perish.

And that’s WHY He wants us to SEEK FIRST the Kingdom of God!

Knowing WHAT the Kingdom of God is and WHY God commands us to seek it first leads to one final question.

HOW do we seek first the Kingdom of God?

The Kingdom of God must be the central pursuit, the ultimate goal, the grand prize that we strive toward.

The apostle Paul wrote, “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The world says, "Look out for yourself."

God says, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

The world glorifies pride.

God values humility.

The world pursues temporary pleasure.

God teaches us to invest in eternal treasures.

Seeking first the Kingdom of God means we start thinking the way God thinks by drawing close to Him through daily prayer and regular Bible study.

And, He will draw close to us.

He will give us the sound mind we need to obey Him and do His will.

And that produces something priceless: righteous, Godly character.

Character is developed over time.

It is forged by the decisions we make, especially under pressure and adversity.

With every temptation resisted.

Every trial patiently endured.

Every decision to obey God and put Him first.

God is shaping us into people with the character He can trust with the power and authority to rule as kings and teach as priests forever.

God is forming and molding us — reproducing Himself in us — to become the spirit-members of His Family who will administer His government in His Kingdom.

Every day we choose God’s way over our own.

Every day we draw closer to Him.

Every day we yield to Him so He can develop His very character in us.

He is preparing us to receive the greatest gift and fulfill the most magnificent destiny any human being could ever inherit: eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

That grand, abundant life for all eternity in the glorious Kingdom of God.
