Why Was Christ Born?

That Jesus Christ came to this earth as a little baby is perhaps the greatest news the world has ever known. WHY was Christ born? What does the Bible say?

The Constant Church of God presents clear answers to your questions, directly from the Bible!

The whole world is nearing that time of year once again, when professing Christians and non-Christians alike will be all caught up in the holiday festivities of Christmas.

Houses aglow with bright lights.

Stores colorfully decorated, laden with a glittering variety of special merchandise storekeepers would not be selling at other times of the year.

People flocking to shops to buy presents for family and loved ones.

The airwaves filled with the traditional music of chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Oh what fun! it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh!

Pine trees loaded on pick-up trucks or strapped down on car roofs — to be trimmed later at home with tinsel and garland, strings of light, glossy ornaments and boughs of silver and gold.

After all, Christmas is “the most wonderful time of the year.”

It's so easy to get caught up in the Christmas spirit.

The Christ-child born in a manger on December 25th Christmas Day.

In the podcast “WHEN was Christ Born?,” we presented evidence directly from the Bible indicating Christ was born in the autumn season.

Not on December 25th.

When people get wrapped up in the season of WHEN Christ was born, it is so easy to overlook what is perhaps the more significant fact: WHY Christ was born!

So today we are going to go through THREE statements — directly from the Bible — about WHY Christ was born.

The first statement is in Matthew chapter 2 and verse 1.

1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

These wise men were inquiring in Jerusalem about a child who was born to be King of the Jews.

Herod was the king of all Judea.

And, he was deeply disturbed about this threat to his throne.

He demanded that the chief priests and scribes tell him who this individual was and where he could find this King of the Jews.

Now to verse 5 of Matthew chapter 2.

5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 And you Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, are not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of you shall come a Governor [or One Who governs], that shall rule my people Israel.

The chief priests and scribes Herod consulted with declared that Christ was destined to rule, with the power and authority of a KING!

The world, however, does not consider Him to be a literal King ruling over a literal Kingdom, exercising power and authority over real subjects, having actual territory and enforcing laws.

Which brings us to the SECOND statement in Isaiah chapter 9 and verse 6.

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

As a literal king, Jesus Christ will sit on a literal throne — the throne of David.

He will rule over a literal nation — the nation of Israel with His capital and headquarters in the city of Jerusalem.

Eventually, His rule will spread out and extend to and include ALL the nations of this earth.

And so, the earth will be filled with the knowledge and truth of God as the waters cover the sea!

And for the FIRST time in all human history, mankind will experience true and lasting PEACE; real happiness; and abundant prosperity and success for all.

THIRD statement is in Revelation chapter 19.

It is this Jesus the world hears very little about: the triumphant, magnificent Jesus Christ who returns to rule over all the earth — not as a little baby in a manger — but with glory, power and majesty as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Notice Revelation Chapter 19.

John sees a vision of the returning Jesus Christ as a warrior-King!

Verse 11.

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

Look at verse 16.

16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND Lord OF Lords.

Jesus Christ will overpower the world’s armies who seek to resist Him!

He will restore the government of God, establish HIS rule and be King over all the earth!

He was born to be the King of the Kingdom of God.

FOR ALL ETERNITY!!

That is WHY Christ was born.
