What Is the Kingdom of God?

Our podcast has frequently mentioned the Kingdom of God.  Exactly what do we mean the Kingdom of God?

Transcript:

The Constant Church of God presents clear answers to your questions, directly from the Bible!
Jesus Christ went everywhere preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God.

He taught about the Kingdom of God in parables.

He sent His twelve disciples to preach ONLY the Kingdom of God.
What is the Kingdom of God?

Do you really know what the Bible says about the Kingdom of God?

Or have you —— like so many —— simply taken for granted these vague, spiritual-sounding ideas that are being taught today?

Many believe that the Kingdom of God is the church they attend.

Others believe it might be something spiritual instead of physical.

So they conclude that the Kingdom of God is heaven.

Still others believe it’s in people’s hearts.

Some kind of sentimental, emotional, feel-good something.

Let’s turn to the Bible, search the scriptures and PROVE ALL things.

The Bible says that Jesus Christ was the messenger who brought the message from God the Father about the soon-coming, world-ruling Kingdom of God.

In scripture after scripture —— both from the Old and New Testaments —— the Bible reveals that the Kingdom of God is a literal kingdom Christ will restore at His return!

There are four essential elements that make up every kingdom.

A kingdom must have a king or ruler; a definite territory; subjects or citizens within that territory; and, lastly, a system of laws and a form of government to administer those laws.

And the Kingdom of God has all of those elements.

The Bible tells us Jesus Christ is the King Who will rule in that kingdom.

About a thousand years before Christ came, the prophet Isaiah was inspired to record this powerful message assuring us that this polluted world and its systems; its way of life; its governments and human institutions; all of the horrible conditions mankind is experiencing today are coming to an end.

Open your Bibles and turn to Isaiah chapter 9 and verse 6.

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

God has guaranteed the Kingdom of God will be set up to replace man’s governments.

And this is surely going to happen because of God’s love for mankind.

So at His return, Christ will be the King of kings and Lord of lords.

What will His Kingdom’s territorial boundaries be?

Many believe it’s going to be up in heaven.

But the Bible says it’s going to be right here on the earth.

Don’t believe me.

Prove it for yourselves.

Look at the book of Matthew chapter 24 and verse 30.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes [or the peoples] of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Coming to where?

The earth.

Confirming what the prophet Zechariah said in chapter 14 and verse 9.

9 And the ETERNAL shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
What could be clearer?

God’s kingdom is going to be set up literally, on this earth!

This earth will be the territory of the Kingdom of God!

The third element of any kingdom is the subjects and citizens of the Kingdom.

Perhaps no other issue has generated more controversy and argument than the identity of the citizens of God’s kingdom.

But the Bible is clear, plain and straightforward.

In the Kingdom of God, human beings will be the citizens.

Turn to Micah chapter 4 and read verse 1.

1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the ETERNAL shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
Flesh and blood humans will be the citizens, the subjects of the Kingdom of God.

And the final element is LAW.

Christ Himself revealed that the fundamental law of the Kingdom of God will be the 10 Commandments.
The same 10 Commandments that man considers burdensome and harsh.

The same 10 Commandments that have supposedly been done away.

And yet, Christ repeatedly upheld these Ten Commandments!

God’s method of governing is through His perfect laws which express, in the first four commandments, HOW to love God; and, in the last six, HOW to love neighbor!

The centerpiece of the whole Bible is obedience to God’s laws.

King Solomon described this as “the whole duty of man."

In Revelation chapter 22 —— the last chapter of the last book of the entire Bible —— and verse 14, Christ instructed the apostle John to write, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

The Kingdom of God is the government of God which will transform this world today of wretchedness and suffering into the glorious world tomorrow of true happiness and lasting prosperity for all of mankind!
May God hasten that day.
